Erectile Dysfunction; Keeping up to Date
Erectile dysfunctions is a serious and life altering problem for millions of men. A man's inability to achieve or maintain an erection is typically linked to complex feelings of inadequacy and frustration. The psychological consequences of erectile dysfunction must not be underestimated. Several medications have been introduced to help erectile dysfunction, including Viagra, Levitra, and Cialis. These medications have improved the quality of life for millions of men and their partners who may have otherwise faced years of continued impotence or unpleasant alternatives including penile implants or penile injections. Countless products have been used over the centuries to help enhance male vigor and increase the libido. However, the effectiveness of these substances typically cannot be proven or disproved.
Whether the cause of erectile dysfunction is from physical factors or psychological factors, or both, it can become a source of mental and emotional stress for both the man and his partner. If a man experiences occasional or persistent erectile dysfunction, it is important to remember your sexual partner. A man's partner may see the inability to have an erection as a sign of decreased sexual desire. It is important to communicate openly and honestly about the condition. It is also strongly advised to seek counseling in order to help confront any concerns they may have about erectile dysfunction and learn how better to discuss their feelings with one another. Communication is the key throughout any diagnoses and treatment process.
Many diseases caused by smoking involve blocking of the arteries. This means that smoking inhibits the flow of blood throughout the body. Long term studies also show that smoking causes more physiological damage, meaning that current smokers are twice as likely to experience impotence as non-smokers. It is completely possible to partially or fully recover erectile function by quitting smoking. However, anyone who has ever had an addiction to nicotine will tell you this is not an easy feat. The problem in recovery after smoking cessation is the degree of damage that has been inflicted and determining which system has been affected. The greater amount of time spent smoking, the greater the damage to the biological systems which cause impotence.
Erectile dysfunction is diagnosed beginning with a physical exam done by your physician. Samples of blood and urine may be taken to test for disease or disorders. You physician will determine which tests are right for you. Treatment of erectile dysfunction is treated in any number of ways, but the treatment is determines by what is causing it in the first place. There are several different types of medications that may be prescribed to help with erectile dysfunction and while not everyone is a good candidate for these types of medications, your doctor will help you decide if they are beneficial. If medication is not the right option for you, you may consider trying vacuum pump devices or discuss surgery options with an urologist. While there are several factors which may cause erectile dysfunction, there are many options available today that were not available or even discussed several years ago. Contacting your physician for more information is the best option to begin treatment.
