Stress out of Control
Stress is something we all have to face. Everyday life throws us curve balls and often times even makes people wonder how they are going to make it through the day. This is typical and easily accepted as a part of life. However, what happens when stress becomes something that controls you? What happens when the stress you feel impairs your ability to function normally? When anxiety is a common occurrence and disables you from living, a true anxiety disorder is probably to blame. This article will seek to help you understand how anxiety can impair you and what can be done about it.
You may already know that anxiety is a close relative to stress. Both are caused by a person being scared, uneasy or worried about something. When those emotions get out of control, it manifests itself both physically and psychologically. The result is a panic attack or anxiety attack. In extreme cases obsessions and compulsive behaviors also become a problem.
So, how do you know when you have had a panic attack? The inner feelings of depression or fear usually coexist with physical such as a rapid heartbeat, shaking, dizziness, chest pains, blurred vision, difficulty breathing and others. If you are a severe case, you may also have repetitive thoughts that will not go away no matter what you do, and usually panic attacks follow in such a case.
Behavioral therapy is probably the most common and efficient method of treatment for anxiety disorders. There are many programs on the market today that claim to do just that. The goal is to lower anxiety to a level in which society views as normal and not over the top. These programs are designed for the patient to face their fears head on. This method takes time and is certainly not a cure all, but worth trying. If you feel that these programs are not for you, you can always opt for medication. It is convenient and affordable in many cases, cheaper than ongoing therapy and trips to a psychiatrist. The positive is that most drugs work quickly and can significantly decrease your episodes. The negative is that with drugs come side effects. If one is not careful, drug abuse and addiction can get a hold of you. Because people with this disorder crave peace and relaxation, they find that they just cannot live without the drug. This can be dangerous and should be closely monitored by a doctor.
Of course, being drug free is the best choice if you can. Eating a whole food, balanced organic diet can be an excellent alternative to drugs. Although it may be slower to see the results you want, your body will thank you for it. Loading your body up with drugs is dangerous and contrary to belief, in most cases, it does not make you live longer. It is also wise to take supplements and monitor your chemical additives, as they have been proven to have negative effects on the brain.
