5 Things You Must Know About Ovarian Cancer
1. Identify your risk factors. Ovarian cancer is the most common disease affecting women across the globe. Anyone can get it. But it is important to take note also if you have a family history of breast, endometrial or ovarian cancer. If any of these cancers occur before the age of 40, due to the BRCA 1 or BRCA 2 genes, chances are you might have inherit the disease through genetic factors. Age is also one factor that needs to be consider in being at risk for ovarian cancer, especially if you're over 50.In addition, if you also underwent hormone replacement therapy, have histories or conditions of uninterrupted ovulation, and obesity then you are at high risk of acquiring ovarian cancer also. Seeking help from a genetic counselor and making changes in your lifestyle lowers your risk.
2. Pay attention to your body. Ovarian cancer symptoms should be identified in its early stage, but sometimes it could be asymptomatic, and a "silent killer" too. Studies also show that common digestive disorders are also closely linked to ovarian cancer, that is when the digestive system flares up or you are suffering from recurrent digestive problems, then symptoms of ovarian cancer worsens and becomes persistent. Some of the Danger Signs of Ovarian Cancer are: Unusual tiredness or fatigue, bloating, frequent urination, sudden weight changes or unusual lose weight, Trouble eating, abdominal and pelvic pain, abnormal post menopausal bleeding and bloating. Experiencing any of these symptoms and seeking medical help or advice from your doctor, could probably detect ovarian cancer early and proper medications will be given.
3. Diagnosing Ovarian Cancer in its early stages will enable 70-90 Percent Survival Rate. Women who are very keen and might notice some unusual signs and changes in their bodies usually go to the doctor to get ovarian screening cancer test early. If you consider yourself high risk for ovarian cancer because of family history, then seeking immediate medical help would be best. Diagnosing signs of ovarian cancer in its early stage will increase your likelihood of survival and combating the disease. Other high risk medical options is to have Hysterectomy or removal of the ovaries, as hysterectomy provides virtual protection for any invasive uterine cancer types. On the other hand, if you're the low-risk type then the doctor can opt to remove just the ovaries alone, as hysterectomy can also decrease and affect sexual appetite. Other preventive measures of avoiding ovarian cancer are annual pap smear test and ultrasounds.
4.Birth Control Pills Lowers your risk of Ovarian Cancer. Some studies show that birth control pills containing estrogen is said to be effective in helping prevent ovarian cancer. High levels of estrogen in a woman's body is said to be one of the contributing factors in acquiring ovarian cancer. Thus, birth control pills regulate and lowers the estrogen level in the body. However, not all women are able to take birth control pills due to some risk factors and health conditions.
5. Have a healthy lifestyle. Prevention is still better than cure, lowering your risk and chances of ovarian cancer through healthy lifestyle and a change in healthy diet is the best preventive method you can do. Eating low- fat, vegetarian diet stabilizes and lowers the estrogen level. It is also advisable that women should avoid eating processed foods that are rich in fat and cholesterol. Eating organic foods, raw fruits and vegetables should be the best diet alternative. Eating foods rich in fiber also helps lower the estrogen level.Whole grain foods, celery, cauliflower, nuts and seeds are best examples of fiber enrich foods. Try to drink less alcohol and caffeinated drinks such as soda and coffee. They are said to raise estrogen levels in women which is a big factor that causes ovarian cancer. On the other hand, try to reduce your stress levels by taking time to enjoy, and relax by getting enough sleep and rest at night. Exercising regularly like walking and jogging helps maintain a person's weight and stabilizes woman's estrogen level.
