Nasal Spray an Up and Coming Treatment for PMS

One day soon, women who suffer from premenstrual syndrome (PMS) or the more severe form premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD) can get quick relief through a nasal spray. This spray, currently in the testing stages contains a compilation of pheromones which are chemicals that are released in the air and serve as attractants of the opposite sex. Pheromones are widely known in the animal world as animals release these chemicals when they are ready to attract and mate.

The makers of this nasal spray claim that women will find relief from a number of emotional disorders linked to PMS and PMDD. Depression, anxiety, irritability and mood swings are alleviated. The testing is on this spray is investigating the positive physical effects it has on PMS-ing women as well.

Doctors feel that the erratic hormones during PMS time affects brain activity, resulting in a number of physical and emotional symptoms. This nasal spray would work in much the same way as an anti-depressant like Prozac in that it will raise serotonin levels in the brain. The pheromones in humans have been known to provide laidback composure in the opposite sex, thanks to a sensitive area in the nose called the vomeronasal organ or VNO.

The primary compound in the nasal spray is dubbed PH80 and has a compound that very much resembles pheromones. When a woman with PMS inhales the nasal spray, it will seek the specialized receptors in this special organ within the nose. Next, the neurons (nerve cells) rush the pheromone-like message to the part of the brain responsible for regulating the chemical balance of the body called the hypothalamus. This hypothalamus helps to regulate appetite, anxiety, sex drive and even fear.

This nasal spray with its pheromone-like compounds will work almost instantly because it is directly inhaled into the body tissues and have a quick track to the brain. So far during trials, the effects of this nasal spray lasts up to four hours give or take depending on the subject. Just imagine being able to nip those mood swings in the bud, thereby enjoying your work and social life without exerting obsessive control on your emotional outbursts during PMS time.

The nasal spray will greatly help you if you have PMDD too. This PMDD is a more severe form of PMS and can totally interfere with daily activities. With just a few puffs of this nasal spray, those depressive moods, irritability, decline in concentration and energy and even insomnia could be gone.

It is important to note that there are some herbal PMS remedy nasal sprays out on the market as well and should not be confused with this PH-80. These herbal sprays may have wild yam, chasteberry, capsaicin, fennel and spearmint but no compound derived from pheromones. While the herbal spray may help some people, it is not always the optimal treatment as you are unsure exactly how you may react to some of the symptoms and certain women may not be able to take them. With the PH-80 nasal spray, while it may still be in the testing phase, many women from all walks of life and health conditions, will likely be able to take the nasal spray quite easily.
