Dealing with Premature Ejaculation as a Couple
If you are in a committed relationship and you start to have problems with premature ejaculation then you need to let your partner know and the two of you need to sit down and discuss the problems that you are having. If your premature ejaculation is caused by stress then talking to your partner can help alleviate your stress. If your premature ejaculation is caused by performance anxiety then talking with your partner about what his or her expectations are sexually from the relationship and how you can meet those expectations may be able to resolve some of your performance anxiety and get you back on track again without having a problem with premature ejaculation.
When you are in a committed relationship it can be easier to discuss the problem of premature ejaculation with your partner, especially if you have been together for a long time. Your partner will probably be more understanding of the problem when you have talked about premature ejaculation with him or her and together you can discuss ways to deal with premature ejaculation as a couple. There are lots of ways that couple can work together to deal with the problem of premature ejaculation within a relationship.
Since stress and anxiety contribute to premature ejaculation problems even when they are not the cause getting the topic of premature ejaculation out into the open will help alleviate some of the stress and shame the man will feel about premature ejaculation. In order to make sex less stressful the couple can work together to make sure that when they want to be sexual with one another it's done in a comfortable, stress free way so that the man doesn't get so stressed out that he has a premature ejaculation. Lots of foreplay can also help reduce the problem of premature ejaculation for couples and can help to ensure that the second partner's sexual expectations are met.
Usually premature ejaculation is most upsetting for the partner, who may not get the sexual satisfaction she or he wants from the partner experiencing premature ejaculation. Because the experience of not satisfying their partner and possibly having that partner become angry or withdrawn can be so upsetting for the person who is experiencing the premature ejaculation it's very important for couples to work together to solve the problem of premature ejaculation within the relationship.
Talking is the best way for the people involved in the relationship to clarify their feelings and communicate their needs and desires to their partners. It's important for both partners to listen to each other without judgment, anger, shame or embarrassment. Don't blame the partner who is experiencing premature ejaculation. Instead you should work with that partner to overcome the stress and anxiety that could be causing the premature ejaculation. If you find it too difficult or intimidating or embarrassing to bring up the subject with your partner you might to think about going to see a relationship counselor or a sex therapist who can help you both deal with premature ejaculation as a couple.
