Finding the right treatment for Restless Leg Syndrome
There are many remedies available the aid in the relief of Restless Leg Syndrome; this may surprise some people, as the disorder is not well known. Relief practices include many parts of the medical field, as well as home remedies and natural treatments.
While many people will have their personal choices when it comes to what helps them find comfort, the list is exhaustive. Lifestyle changes are often first tried, as they seem to be the most logical and easiest to integrate into a person's daily routine. A top choice is exercise, not only is this a focus for a healthy lifestyle in general, it is believed that taking a walk, at least four time a weeks can aid in sleep disorders. This idea is helpful for all ages, as RLS is not singled out in any particular age group. It is important to remember though that excessive exercise, what some believe will help even more can actually increase symptoms and cause additional discomfort.
Medical treatments are often the next choice, with several practices are considered helpful. Used mostly for ongoing insomnia, Stimulus Control can also help those where insomnia is actually part of another disorder, such as RLS. The process focuses on reprogramming the body to remember that going to bed is for sleep, and should not be a stressful event. A non-traditional practice, though does fall into the medical relief category, is acupuncture. This is often used for the relief of rheumatoid arthritis; it is believed to assist in the relief of RLS symptoms, as acupuncture focuses on the stimulation of the various parts of the brain. Two separate natural choices include Nutritional supplements, like vitamin E, calcium, magnesium and folic acid, when included in a daily routine, can help relieving symptoms related to RLS. A more personal remedy is Homeopathy, where a person is treated according to specific symptoms, whether they are primary or secondary - an important piece of information when it comes to RLS, as it can present itself in either way.
A maybe lesser known or expected form of relief focuses on practices from the psychological field. Two better known practices are Biofeedback, which involves monitoring with an EEG machine, though takes more time, it measures a persons brain waves. The results of the procedure focuses on the where tension and sleep stages are, in turn offering patients the knowledge of what to avoid at bedtime. Cognitive-Behavioral therapy focuses on changing negative thought patterns in turn offering the person the knowledge to change the behavior and relieve the symptoms or discomfort they are having. Lastly Paradoxical Intention looks at what may be causing the symptoms or the fear and takes it one step further. This practice makes a person focus on what is not working and take the opposite approach, making that their priority.
There is no particular remedy that is best and there is not one that is right for everyone, finding the one that is going to work for you can take time. This is important as it may take some time to find what is going to work to relieve your specific symptoms.
