Acupuncture and Infertility: Working Hand in Hand

Infertility is a deeply personal and emotionally laden topic and it can also at times be challenging and akin to an uphill battle. Assisted reproductive techniques can be scary and sometimes they can take a fairly lengthy period of time to show results. The medication that is often prescribed to work in concert with these techniques as well can have it s share of potential side effects and may not be suitable for everyone, depending on their medical history and current health situation. Included in this are high hopes for both the couple trying to conceive as well as their family members and a good measure of fear if it proves to be unsuccessful after all of the time, effort and money that was put into it.

A safe and effective alternative to assisted reproductive techniques conducted at conventional hospitals is to undergo acupuncture treatments. While this may not prove effective, it has for many women. Be aware that no method for improving fertility, whether it be alternative medicine or conventional medicine is going to be 100% successful every time.

Acupuncture has shown excellent results at improving fertility and part of the reason for that is that it is holistic in nature, which means that it sees the entire mind body connection as a whole as opposed to breaking the body down into individual parts. A holistic approach to a health condition means that the problem is looked at in relation to a number of factors and not just the physical side of things. The holistic side of acupuncture looks at contributing factors that could lead to fertility problems such as stressful emotional patterns that exist in a relationship, exhaustion and fatigue as well as any other kind of challenges in relation to health that might affect a couple's chances of conceiving a child. It is strongly believed that both the health as well as the success of any pregnancy is affected tremendously by how healthy physically and emotionally the father and mother is, both in the time before the child is conceived as well as during the nine months.

The number priority of a qualified acupuncturist is to be supportive and nurturing to their clients and to provide couples with all of the necessary information they need to make a decision about whether acupuncture is a good choice for their particular situation or not. If a couple decided to proceed with acupuncture treatments they will also receive with the treatments a steady stream of herbs that are all natural and very safe. Together the acupuncture treatments and the herbs work to both strengthen and balance the health of the client and the emphasis of course is always on making sure the reproductive system is working to its optimum best. Doing these things works in concert with a woman's monthly menstrual cycle to boost her fertility rates and thus allow pregnancy to occur.

The strategies that are undertaken to improve fertility through the use of acupuncture include regulating the hormones of a woman's menstrual cycle; eliminating or decreasing and obstructions that could potentially get in the way of implantation or adequate circulation; improving any negative premenstrual symptoms that exist; improving the transport of sperm to egg during intercourse; reducing the amount of anxiety, depression and stress the client experiences in her life; reducing the chance that a miscarriage could occur and augmenting the outcomes of the assisted reproductive techniques (ART) procedure.
