5 Things You Must Know About Acupuncture Health
1. Acupuncture is one of the oldest medical techniques observed and documented mainly in China and Japan. Acupuncture has proven to be efficacious in relieving various types of illnesses and diseases that it's popularity has spread across countries and continents over the years. In Japan, were acupuncture gained utmost popularity during the previous centuries, the acupuncture technique involved using an insertion tube to help guide the needle to be inserted to the energy points of the body. This technique is in fact still widely used by most of the acupuncturists practicing in Japan and other practitioners worldwide.
2. As an ancient healing therapy used in Oriental Medicine, acupuncture practices uses the concept of vital points, energy points, or "Qi" coursing along specific areas in our body. Acupuncture uses the needle insertion method technique to be able to access the energy points and subsequently promote individual healing and wellness. The acupuncturist views health in coordination with the status of various energy points found all over the body surface area. Illnesses and sickness are related to blockage or abnormal flow of the "Qi" or vital energy along its pathways which are also called "channels" or "meridians.
The "Qi" or vital energy in Oriental medicine is comparable with blood in the medical field, once there is an obstruction or disturbance to the flow, systemic manifestations will occur such as pain and inflammation. The acupuncturist is an expert in correcting any imbalance in an individual's vital energy by stimulating acupressure points found in specific areas of the body. The goal of the acupuncturist is to restore the normal energy flow to help the body undergo a successful healing process throughout the therapy period.
3. How does acupuncture promote healing and wellness in an individual? Ancient theories of acupuncture principles are still upheld by practitioners in the modern world. Acupuncture relies on the principle that a freely circulating vital energy and blood results in good health and an illness free life. Acupuncture is in fact a technique developed to decrease any build up of vital energy from any meridian involved. This process involves creating holes along the meridian or energy pathway so that the obstruction is removed and the problem alleviated. There are different techniques in creating holes through the needle insertion method and these are based on the type of disease or illness afflicting the patient.
4. According to modern studies, there are three ways in which acupuncture helps you body heal from its afflictions. Studies have shown that through acupuncture can effectively access areas of electromagnetic signaling in the body. The stimulation of electromagnetic signalling helps the body produce the happy hormone endorphin which also has a painkilling effect during inflammatory processes. Acupuncture stimulation also triggers the immune system cells of the body to fight infection and actively guard the body against chronic diseases.
Acupuncture is also responsible for the release of various endogenous opioid chemicals in our body. Opioids are natural anesthetic agents which are found to be increased during the process of acupuncture therapy. These chemicals help greatly in relieving pain felt by the patient.
5. Lastly, studies have gathered evidence that acupuncture can influence brain chemistry which has profound effects to the body. The effect of acupuncture on the brain involves regulating the functions and effects of various neurotransmitters and neurohormones produced by our brain cells. The brain is the major regulatory organ in various important physiological processes such as blood flow and pressure, respiration, and body temperature.
