Alternative Medicine Features Thermographic Photography. Do You Know Why It Works?
Thermography used to be the stuff of fairground side shows. You might have been surprised to learn that it is now also making its way into alternative medicine. Case in point is the possibility of detecting the earliest stages of arthritic pain; at times this occurs so early that the patient might not yet even have noticed that something is seriously wrong in the first place! Not surprisingly, alternative medicine now features thermographic photography as a means of more accurately diagnosing problems having to do with tendons, ligaments, joints, and also bones.
In some cases alternative medicine in general and thermography in particular, are employed as tools of last resort. Perhaps the patient has already visited physicians and even some other alternative healers, but thus far no help has been visited on her or him. In the case of the established Western medicine, the odds are good that exams came back completely negative but the patient was still having intermittent pain that simply could not be explained away. This is made worse if the patient is an athlete and has not only a livelihood but also an entire career riding on the outcome of the exams and also on the ability to continue on competing.
The upshot is that some patients - those who have heard of thermography and are sufficiently open minded - will make appointments with alternative healers who are also known as having as one of their areas of expertise thermographic photography. During such a session, the practitioner takes thermographic images of the patient, the areas of the body where the pain is prevalent, and also the other limb, for the sake of providing a baseline comparison. Thermography allows the skilled practitioner and his patient to visually discern the changes in heat patterns that are emitted from the person's limbs.
When compared to the other limb, the differences become glaringly obvious. Moreover, technically inclined alternative healers may use a thermographic video camera that captures the changes in patterns. For example, if the area is white, it is considered hottest and this heat might denote an inflammation. On the other end of the spectrum are the black spots that are considered the coldest and thus they do not denote any kind of possible inflammation. Colorful in between colors may point to potential problem area that at this time are not yet causing pain or other problems but might do so in the future.
Patients who might have no interest in other alternative health treatments might consider this a useful springboard when it comes to consulting with a specialist. It helps to provide the data needed for other professionals to pinpoint a bodily locale of heightened concern. It also makes it possible, for those willing to undergo alternative healing procedures, to find a massage therapist who can work with the help of the thermographic images, and also apply leg wraps, hydrotherapy, acupuncture, and chiropractics. There is virtually no end to the advantages that this kind of alternative approach offers to even the most casual observer, and it is perhaps a bit surprising that thermography as a treatment tool is not more in use today.
