5 Things You Must Know About Cellulite
is a very common condition that affects the majority of women. Here are the 5 things you must know about cellulite:
1. is just fat
What we call cellulite is actually the deposition of fat between the skin and the layer below it. This fat accumulation causes the fat cells to increase in volume and start compressing the blood vessels, which creates the appearance of cellulite. is not a disease, but it's actually the natural way of storing fat for women after puberty. The reason why men don't usually suffer from this condition is genetic. In women, the fat cells are stacked in vertical chambers that protrude into the dermis, but in men these cells have a different configuration.
So, if cellulite is just fat can losing weight help? It depends. First of all, losing weight doesn't necessarily mean that you are going to lose fat. Weight loss can also mean losing water weight or muscle mass. What is more, even if you do lose fat you may not lose it from the areas of the body that are afflicted with cellulite. The problem is that due to hormonal factors this fat is stubborn and is usually the last to go away. However, if you are currently overweight, getting rid of the excess weight may make cellulite less visible.
2. becomes worse with age
Even though, in some cases cellulite may develop as early as the age of 15, it normally becomes much worse after puberty and especially after middle age. There are many reasons why this happens. The skin gets thinner as we age, which makes the problem much more visible. What is more, as we get older we also suffer from collagen loss, which weakens the connective tissue and leads to loose skin. An additional reason is that women tend to put on weight as they get older and this aggravates the situation.
3. There are 3 different types of cellulite
The 3 types of cellulite are the following: hard, soft and edematous. Hard cellulite is characterized by tight skin that doesn't move when the woman changes position, but stays firmly attached to the muscle. This type of cellulite is usually seen in women with a good physical condition and good muscle tone. Soft cellulite creates an undulating appearance and often co-exists with varicose veins. It usually occurs after the age of 40, but it may also occur after rapid weight gain, or due to the lack of muscle tone. This type of cellulite is less visible when standing than when lying down. Edematous cellulite can be painful when touched and usually results from poor circulation, fluid retention and lymphatic insufficiency.
4. can't be cured by following a special diet
is just fat. There is no proof that toxins or vitamin deficiency have anything to do with this condition. This means that, contrary to popular belief, cellulite can't be cured by eating lots of fruits and vegetables or drinking plenty of water. There is no magical food that can prevent or treat cellulite.
5. Liposuction can't be used as a cellulite treatment
Liposuction has no effect on cellulite. Liposuction doesn't remove the fat that is located near the skin layer, which means that it actually leaves cellulite intact.
