5 Things You Must Know About Colon Cleansing
1. Colon cleansing is becoming more and more popular as a means to detoxify the body. The colon is the passage for undigested food material and other bodily wastes, which are led to the rectum and passed out as fecal matter. Naturally, the body's mechanisms wholly eliminate these toxic wastes. Poor dietary habits like eating foods low in fiber however mean that these toxics build up along the walls of the colon as it becomes more difficult for the body to naturally flush them out. The toxics being held up are a health hazard since the walls of the colon are known to be highly permeable to allow their flow back into the bloodstream. This can lead to a whole host of (common) complaints of general fatigue, abdominal discomfort, headache and even weight-gain.
2. Natural colon cleansing is generally accepted as the best way to rid the colon of toxic wastes. To prevent the clogging of fecal matter in the colon, people are advised to take plenty of water daily to soften food material in the digestive system. Eating fiber-rich diets is a minimum requirement in ensuring that food is efficiently digested and the waste is dutifully passed out. Regular exercise is also highly recommended.
3. One of the most common approaches today to colon cleansing is taking healthy diets and herbal supplements. Eating plenty of fruits, vegetables and whole grains provides the much-needed roughage for maximum digestion and absorption of food while at the same time aiding in elimination of indigestible matter. Fast foods which are high in fat and low in fiber make digestion difficult for the body and as a result, much of the food eaten is converted to sugars and fats, leading to weight-gain. Some herbs like teas that contain senna are known to be laxatives that promote elimination of toxic wastes.
4. There are numerous colon cleansing products out there in the market today. Bowtrol, a probiotic supplement, and DigestIt are some of the most popular herbal cleansers. Many more exist and they all promise to clean up the colon and eliminate common problems such as constipation and weight gaining. It would be wise to first extensively read reviews of these products before buying them. Another widely practiced form of colon cleansing is known as colonic irrigation. The process involves inserting a tube through the rectum and pumping in flushes of warm water to clear the colon lining of accumulated waste materials. Opponents of this practice argue against its safety, citing such issues as body electrolyte imbalance which could result from flushing in so much water; its proponents have nothing but praise for it.
5. Overall, colon cleansing is widely accepted as a way to rid the body of toxic wastes and promote general health and vitality. Some doctors recommend that it be done once a year. a detoxified colon promotes vigor, mental alertness and even a clearer skin. A link between a clogged colon and weight gain has also been established as the body retains huge amounts of waste, some of which enters the bloodstream.
