How to Get Your Partner to Use a Condom

One difficult thing when it comes to using condoms as contraceptives is how to convince your partner to use one. Many men dislike them, claiming that they disrupt lovemaking, that they interfere with sensitively or are just a hassle to use. The problem is that more women want their men to use condoms and not just because of the issues of contraception but also because they are concerned about sexually transmitted diseases, also called STDs. This is especially true when you know your partner has had other lovers before you.

The question is how you convince your lover to use a condom. Once you have asked him to use a condom there are some responses you can expect. If you are on the Pill he will ask why you still want him to use a condom. He may look hurt when he asks you what you are worried about. You need to tenderly and compassionately explain that you are worried for both of you and that a condom can protect each of you from something you may not even realize that you have. When he responds, again hurt or perhaps angry, that you are accusing him of having some type of disease you need to respond quietly that you are concerned for both of you since you have both been with others before. He may not like it but it will probably make sense to him.

It is always smart for a woman to have a condom with her if she thinks she and her lover might have sex or even if she thinks they might for the first time. That way, when she asks him to wear a condom, and he explains that he does not have one, she can give him the one she has with her. He will be surprised but perhaps at the same time flattered that she was thinking about making love with him.

Sometimes a man will not want to use a condom because he loses his erection when putting it on. This is not a common problem but it does occur sometimes. It may be that he finds the interruption a distraction to his foreplay. One way for a women to deal with this is to make it part of the sexual play by putting it on for him. This will likely solve the erection problem and encourage him to use the condom.

A woman must always be wary of her lover suggesting that perhaps just that one time it would be okay if he does not wear a condom. She must never give in on this one especially if she is not using the Pill. She must make the point that once is all it takes for her to become pregnant and then have a lifetime responsibility to care for. Telling her he loves her so why must she be so insistent is a line she can use back on him. After all if he loves her he would not want to saddle her with an unwanted pregnancy.
