Cosmetic Surgery Using Injectables
There are four main types of injectables including BOTOX® which are botulinum toxin injections, collagen injections, fat injections, and also hyaluronic acid injections such as Restylane.
BOTOX® began in the 1960s as a neurological treatment and today is used to treat frown lines, forehead creases, "crow's feet," lines and wrinkles that can appear on the lower face, and even nasal muscles to reduce excessive flaring. BOTOX® may also be beneficial for the treatment of migraines. BOTOX® is a very popular non-surgical cosmetic procedure. The BOTOX® is injected directly into the muscle by using a tiny needle. The effect may take a few days to materialize.
The benefits of using BOTOX® is that individuals can have a treatment and not have to miss any of their daily activities because it is not necessary to take time off to heal. BOTOX® injections have been proven to be safe.
BOTOX® for treatment of wrinkles may require repeat treatment.
Side effects that are possible with the BOTOX® treatment are numbness at the site of the treatment, swelling, bruising, a burning sensation at the injection site, and possible temporary headache or nausea.
BOTOX® does not work for everyone as some individuals who have had the injections report no improvement whatsoever in their condition.
BOTOX® is used for early signs of aging. Pregnant and nursing women should not have the BOTOX® procedure.
The FDA approved collagen injections in 1981. They are used for the treatment of frown lines, and "crow's feet," and also for smile lines.
Collagen is injected mixed with anesthesia into depressions in the skin. Collagen injections are often used along with implants.
The benefits of collagen injection are that it is safe, and is an effective treatment with immediate results. There is no need for healing time, and there is no need for pre-testing.
Collagen is a temporary affect and may require repeat treatments every 3 to 6 months.
Some individuals experience bruising as a side effect of the treatment.
Possible allergic reactions can cause itching, redness, and other allergic symptoms.
Fat injections are used as soft tissue filler material to fix frown lines. crow's feet and nasolabial (smile lines) and also to fill out depression scar areas on any part of the body. Fat injections are not permanent and may require maintenance.
Fat cells are collected from a donor site on the individual's body or harvested if the same individual is having liposuction. It is usually necessary to have 3 or 4 treatments over a 6-month period of time.
Fat injections are natural and thus non-allergenic, injection results can last for several months or they can be permanent. There is only minimal discomfort, which can be controlled with pain medications.
Occasionally individuals experience swelling, or bruising. Individuals should avoid the sun.
Hyaluronic acid injections such as Restylane are done to increase volume of face, cheeks, and lips that are in need due to the process of aging. Results can last up to 6 months.
There is minimal discomfort associated with Hyaluronic acid injections and very few side effects have been reported. You can use makeup right after the procedure and return to normal activates as soon as the procedure is over.
Bruising and swelling can occur and small bumps are sometimes visible or palpable after the procedure. Repeat injections are often necessary after only 3 weeks.
