How To Go About Finding a Cosmetic Doctor
If you are considering getting cosmetic surgery you should choose your doctor or surgeon carefully. Just how do you go about choosing a doctor or surgeon carefully? Keep reading and you may learn some useful tips to help you make your choice.
Most doctors and surgeons who specialize in cosmetic surgery will be able to give you an excellent result, but there are some out there who you should avoid. Most who are in the "thinking about it" stage usually start collecting names from friends and relatives who have had the same or similar procedure done. This is a good thing to do, just remember to do your own homework and don't rely solely on what someone tells you about a doctor or surgeon. One of the most important credentials that a doctor has is his or her professional reputation. A doctor who was right for your neighbor, friend or family member may not be the right doctor for you because you have different needs. Once you have a list of names either gathered from those who have had the surgery or from the phone book, or professional directory you will want to make appointments with a few of them so that you can have a consultation, and assess the doctor yourself.
There are a few things you should do before each of these consultation appointments. While you are waiting for your appointment date, gather information such as brochures, newspaper clippings that describe the doctor and his or her practice. While reading this material start developing a list of questions to ask on your appointment. Go online and search for information about the procedure or surgery you are contemplating having and use this to add questions to your list. If the doctor or practice has a Website, visit it and read as much as you can on the Website to get an overall view of whom the doctor is and what the practice is like. Some Websites will even list the fees for each procedure. Doing your homework ahead of time may eliminate some of the names from your list.
Now that you have a list of questions you are ready for your first consultation appointment.
A consultation visit can last anywhere from fifteen minutes to an hour. You should only be charged one consultation fee even if you come back multiple times.
Make sure that you know what it is that you want the doctor to do for you. Communicating your needs is your responsibility. Take notes while on your consultation, so that you do not have to rely on your memory for key bits of important information. Ask your questions about fees, payment arrangements and scheduling of appointments for the doctor's secretary or other staff members. You want to ask your medical questions of the doctor, don't waste the doctor's valuable time.
You will have several factors that you will be looking for answers to when making your decision, cost only being one of them. You will want to find out how experienced the doctor is in doing the procedure you will be having. You will also want to know about where the incisions will be and about any scarring that is expected. You will want to find out about the recovery period, and what kind of results you can expect.
Never settle for the first or only doctor you visit, always see more than one doctor because more than one opinion gives you more options, you can validate information and compare information from one doctor to the next. You should see at least 3 doctors before making your decision. Always make sure you leave yourself a period of time to think about your decision after your consultation appointments are done. You want to be truly comfortable with your decision. If you do not feel secure in any of the doctors you had consultations with continue your search.
Make sure you see your doctor at least twice before the procedure. You should feel very confident in your decision before proceeding, this is what the multiple appointments are for. Pre-surgery jitters are to be expected but you should feet totally confident in your choice of doctor. You can also work with a legitimate cosmetic surgery consultant to help you digress the information you have learned from your consultations. Take your time, surgery, any surgery has its risks, you do not want to rush into cosmetic surgery.
