What You Should Know About Injectable Cosmetic Procedures
There are several different types of injectable cosmetic procedures including botulinum toxin injections, which include BOTOX®. This type of injectable is used for the treatment of frown lines, forehead furrows, and "crow's feet", lines and wrinkles of the face and to decrease nasal flaring. Wrinkles that respond well to injectables are those that are caused by facial expressions such as frowning, squinting, smiling and laughing. These injectables are a temporary treatment and repeat procedures are normally needed to keep up the appearances desired. Typically results last about 3 to 4 months.
Collagen injections are another type of injectable cosmetic procedure. Collagen was first used in 1981. Collagen injections are considered to be nonsurgical cosmetic procedures. They are used in the treatment of frown lines, "crow's feet," smile lines and the deeper lines around the mouth. Collagen injections are temporary. Collagen injections are safe, time-tested and provide immediate results.
Fat injections are another kind of injectable cosmetic procedure. Fat injections are also called autologous fat transplantation. These types of injections are used to transfer fat from one part of the body to another. They are used to recontour the face, to diminish the effects of frown lines, crow's feet and smile lines. These injections can give more definition to the chin and cheeks. They can also fill out depressed scarred areas of the body. Fat injection procedures are temporary and require maintenance program to keep up the appearances. Fat injections are natural and non-allergenic. They take place in outpatient conditions usually within an hour. There is only minimal discomfort from the procedure.
Hyaluronic acid is also used as soft tissue filler. You may be familiar with Restylane Fine Line and Perlane, which are distributed by the Medicis Company, and Hylaform, which is distributed by lnamed. Hyaluronic acid is used to correct wrinkles, fine lines, contour deformities and volume deficiencies of the cheeks, face, and lips that are associated with the aging process.
Hyaluronic acid is also effective for the treatment of nasolabial folds and for lip augmentation, and to help with contour deformities. It is also good in the treatment of lines and creases that persist.
Hyaluronic acid is a natural substance that minimizes allergic reactions. Injection affects usually last approximately 6 months. There is a minimal amount of discomfort associated with the injections. You can apply make-up and resume normal activities after having an injection.
Bruising and swelling can occur at the injection site. Small bumps are also possible to be seen or felt. You may require another injection after 3 weeks in order to reach desired results.
