5 Things You Must Know About Dentalcare
1. Good Nutrition is Vital for Good Dental Health - ensure you include a healthy and calcium rich diet to keep your pearly whites healthy. You can ensure that your child eats well by inculcating healthy eating habits such as snacking on fruit which has large water content, and including vegetables such as broccoli, cauliflower, carrots, cucumbers and celery. Studies have proved that aged cheese can help prevent tooth decay, so make it a habit to end meals with a selection of cheese. This practice can become a habit in your children too and that will go a long way to keep their teeth healthy.
2. Brushing Twice a Day - this helps to keep the teeth clean and also prevents cavities. It is imperative to brush twice and floss daily as this will help remove food particles which are the root cause for the formation of cavities. Studies have also proved that the people who are meticulous about their dental hygiene tend to live longer. It is also necessary to go to the dentist for regular checkups and cleaning so that there is no opportunity for the formation of tartar and plaque on your teeth. Change your tooth brush regularly and wash it in hot water to keep germs at bay and always change your tooth brush after an illness.
3. Gum Disease Should be Avoided at all costs - it is one of the main reason adults lose teeth and there are many studies which prove that gum disease has also been linked to heart disease and strokes. Proper diagnoses are imperative as in the early stage of gum disease or gingivitis, treatment is easy. In case it is left untreated or if taken lightly, Periodontitis which is the advanced stage of gum disease can occur and this can cause bone loss. Brushing twice a day, flossing, dental checkups and regular cleanings are the best way to ensure you do not contract gum disease.
4. Dental Check Ups Should Include Oral Cancer Screening - this is especially important for people who either chew tobacco or smoke. Statistics give scary scenarios regarding the number of people affected by oral cancer. In case you do not smoke but have a sharp tooth even then you should get it checked and treated. Anything irritating the soft tissues of the mouth such as a sharp tooth or eating very hot food constantly too can also be a cause for cancer.
5. Dental Problems Cannot be Wished Away nor Do they Get Better Without Proper and Timely Treatment - all dental problems are necessarily progressive in nature. Whether it is gum disease, cavities or sensitivity it is imperative to go to a dentist to get timely help. If you keep procrastinating about getting a cavity filled, it can progress to the nerve of the tooth and then you could need root canal treatment. Though this treatment is dreaded by patients it is not painful if done by a well trained dentist. Bad breath too cannot be cured by using a mouth freshener. Using a mouth freshener or rinsing with a mouth wash will only mask the odor but you need to meet a dentist to get to the root of the problem and solve it.
