How To Manage Your Diabetes And Prevent Problems
There are many health problems that are common to diabetics such as heart disease, high blood pressure, feet and eye problems, kidney disease and teeth and gum issues. Those who have diabetes can prevent these health problems by learning how to manage their diabetes. Your doctor will be your most important source of information about preventing problems and managing your diabetes.
Most diabetic problems stem from blood glucose that is too high, too low or just plain out of control. It is vital that every diabetic monitor their blood glucose levels on a regular basis so that they know what they are, can adjust insulin or other diabetic medications and can give their level information to their diabetic doctor who can advise them on how to better manage their diabetes.
It is also important to monitor and manage your blood pressure and your cholesterol too as these levels can also influence your risk for diabetic problems.
It is also important to have your A1C test twice a year. This test helps your doctor to determine what your average blood glucose level has been for the past 2 to 3 months. The target number for this test is below 7%. Knowing your A1C results and your blood glucose results can give your doctor a clearer picture of your diabetic health.
Your normal blood pressure reading may be around 130/80 anything higher or lower may indicate problems that your doctor will want to address. Proper diet, taking your medications as prescribed, getting enough physical activity each day, and monitoring your blood pressure can all help you to prevent diabetic problems associated with high blood pressure.
Diabetics can also avoid health problems by controlling and monitoring their cholesterol levels. Having healthy cholesterol levels can help to prevent heart disease and stroke, which are the two biggest health problems diabetics face. You should have your cholesterol blood levels checked twice a year. Proper diet, adequate levels of physical activity and taking your medications as prescribed are all things that diabetics can do to help prevent health problems.
It is possible to make a positive impact on your health and to prevent diabetic health problems. Your doctor and your medical team are there to help you manage your health. It is vital that you understand your disease and your health risks as well as to learn all you can about making positive changes in your lifestyle. You can make a difference in your health.
