5 Things You Must Know About Food Cures

1. The first point that should be taken into consideration when considering the 5 things you must know about food cures is that many of us were raised to believe that our general practitioner has the answer to all our health problems by merely prescribing medication. However, many of our common ailments can be treated with food cures. In fact, food cures are often the more obvious cure and yet not always the first cure considered. Admittedly the scientific way to manage some health issues is in fact the most reliable and successful way to manage certain ailments or illnesses. As the sciences have evolved and engulfed our lives many natural cures, food cures, are not considered or even remembered and we automatically embark on the road of chemical cure.

2. Secondly another of the 5 things you must know about food cures is that "you are what you eat" and your eating habits can have a profound influence on your health and general well-being. Serious conditions such as type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular disease, arthritis, obesity etc can be as a result of poor diet and poor lifestyle habits. A change in diet and change in lifestyle to healthy eating and regular exercise is much more enjoyable than having to take regular medication. Researchers and scientists are on a daily basis discovering more and more how relevant the nutrients of good foods influence our health and are essential to a healthy long life.

3. Number 3 of the 5 things you must know about food cures is that common sense should prevail. The general rule of 'everything in moderation' is the way to go. Going to the extreme because a particular food type has been recommended for a specific ailment and 'overdosing' with it is harmful. Just like any treatment 'self-medication' with a food cure needs to be handled as sensibly as if taking scientific medication and possibly, at times, with a general practitioners knowledge. There are many many old-wives' tales, food cures, concoctions and rumours that go to the extreme and in fact can be harmful and leave one with secondary complications. Be sensible and if you are taking regular medication of sorts make sure any food cure or supplement you are about to try does not result in contraindications - yes it can happen even though it is only a 'food cure'.

4. Fourthly another of the 5 things you must know about food cures is, that should you decide to venture on the course of a food cure, it is important to make sure that the food you are about to consume as a cure is as 'pure' as you can possibly get. Organic food is the preferred option to maximise the benefits of the food cure. Foods sprayed with insecticides or grown with synthetic chemical fertilizers are not going to contribute to much of a cure, more likely the chemicals found on and in chemically treated foods can and often do cause a variety of intolerances. Secondly chemically produced foods contain very little, if any, nutrients that are required to instigate any cure you are striving for.

5. Finally the last of the 5 things you must know about food cures is be sure to enlighten oneself to the chemistry of good foods. Thoroughly research your specific ailment. Take into consideration your lifestyle, general well being and environment. Besides requiring a food cure one may also need a change of environment. Do consider a food cure and do not be put off by acquaintences or associates that may try to deter you by saying it is all old housewives tales. There are food cures out there. They do work but you too have to work at it. It will not happen by merely having the food in the kitchen.
