Staying Fit By Losing Weight
Obesity is fast becoming an epidemic in the United States. Obesity can lead to many health problems including type 2 diabetes, osteoporosis, heart disease and stroke. There are different ways in which an individual may chose to lose weight including taking diet medications, participating in diet plans and exercise programs, and having weight loss surgery. Of all of the before mentioned options exercise is the safest and most effective way to lose weight. Exercise reduces obesity and it can improve strength and functioning of your muscles and joints.
There are many different types of exercises that one may decide to participate in when desiring to lose weight. The common exercises for weight loss are aerobics, and cardiovascular exercises. Aerobics include walking, jogging, stair climbing, cycling, and also step-exercising. Aerobics and cardiovascular exercises involve the use of your large muscle groups and some of the exercises that are aerobic in nature also involve the lower body muscle groups such as jogging, cycling, step-exercising, and walking. The benefit of aerobic exercises includes increasing your muscle strength, improving your muscle coordination and function as well as your flexibility. If you goal is to lose weight walking is a perfect exercise. Walking burns body fat and tone your muscles. Walking also increases your metabolism, which aids in weight loss. Running also allows you to lose weight quickly and improves the strength and flexibility of both your muscles and your joints. Swimming is a great cardiovascular exercise. Swimming is an excellent weight loss tool and definitely improves your health. Stationary cycling can help you to lose weight, helps to increase your metabolism, and burns fat.
When you lose weight even just 5 or 10 pounds can make a big difference in your health and by decreasing your risk for disease. Losing weight can lower your risk for heart disease and hypertension, can lower your risk for diabetes type 2, and can lower your risk of cancer. Losing weight can also decrease your symptoms of sleep apnea.
Did you know that excess weight is difficult on your bones? Those who are overweight are increasing their risk for arthritis.
If you are overweight a pre-menopausal you can experience irregular menstrual cycles and also infertility! If you do become pregnant and are overweight at the start of your pregnancy you can experience an increase in complications of pregnancy because of the excess weight. Overweight women are at an increased risk for gestational diabetes and also can experience problems with labor and delivery.
Excess weight can also have an impact on your quality of life including leading to anxiety and depression, poor self-image and a sedentary life due to physical activity being uncomfortable due to your large body size. The inactivity can lead to more weight gain and an increase in your risk for health problems.
