Meditation Helps The Brain
Ever notice how more and more people are using daily meditation to deal with the stress of daily life? Well, now we know they aren't just imagining the benefits. A study out of Yale University has revealed something very interesting - meditation is beneficial for your brain.
The disciplines behind meditation often assert that it helps you be in 'the here and now'. Well, the Yale study found this to actually be true. The study concluded that people who meditate every day slowly reset their brain from a default mode that leads to day dreaming and a lack of focus to a new default that is very present oriented. In short, mediation helps people focus on the here and now instead of day dreaming endlessly. I don't know about you, but that is something I definitely need.
Perhaps the most interesting aspect of the study is the long term results. The Yale researchers found clear indications that the practice of meditation can also help delay the onset of Alzheimer's disease. For us older folks, that's a very important finding.
