It has full recognition from the General Medical Council. Under the guidelines of the BMA, a patient can directly e referred to the Osteopaths by the General Physicians.

The subjects that the students need to study during their degree tenure include physiology, anatomy, orthopedics, medicine, neurology and other related subjects apart from the various testing methods used in medical field. The students are also expected to learn the testing and treatment procedures that are involved in .
3. All the Osteopaths practicing, at present, have got their personal indemnity insurance done for them. During the first of the visits, a proper detail of the history of the patient needs to be taken. The detail should include the major problems faced by the patient, the medical and social history of the patient, if any. After this, the Osteopath has to take a call if the mentioned problem does qualifies as one of the problems that is medical in nature or has any underlying cause that is of medical nature, if the problem requires an immediate action on the part of the osteopath or if the Osteopathic treatment can be easily carried out without any complications. The final decision is based on the reading of the specific case with all the relevant history of the subject. This will help in making the further decision if the patient is to be referred to any General Physician or of the Osteopath can proceed with the treatment.
5.
