The Holistic Approach to Multiple Sclerosis (Part Two)
When you are diagnosed with a disease such as multiple sclerosis it is important to learn everything you can about the disease in order to find the best methods possible of coping with the symptoms and the pain that accompanies the symptoms. Evening primrose oil (also known as linoleic oil) can be found in safflower oil and sunflower seeds and it has been shown to provide some benefit to the pain suffered by MS patients. It is recommended that you take linoleic acid supplements orally every day. Diet plays such an important role when it comes to taking care of oneself and this is definitely the case if you suffer from multiple sclerosis. Patients of MS need to eat a healthy and well balanced diet on a regular basis if order for their health to remain as top notch as possible. If there is any aspect of your diet that poses any concerns for you then take the time to discuss it with your doctor. The foods you eat can play an instrumental role bringing pain relief to your life.
Although the holistic and alternative approach to pain and symptom relief is a good one, it is important to be aware that some types of therapies will prove ineffective and many will be expensive and could even be dangerous to the individual. The best way to know what is best for you is to educate yourself on your options and talk to qualified experts in the field.
You need to ask yourself a number of different questions regarding treatments and these questions include- What type of treatment are you considering? What does the treatment involve? How does the treatment work? Why does the treatment work? Are there any risks involved with the treatment work? What are the side effects of this type of treatment? Is the treatment effective? (and what evidence is there to support it?)How much does the treatment cost?
If you do decide to try one of the types of holistic therapies never take anything at face value and always do plenty of research to find out everything you can about the treatments you are looking at. Talk to healthcare practitioners, support groups and organizations and then make an informed decision. Always discuss the holistic treatment(s) you are contemplating with your doctor before you start treatment. It is a good idea to take the time to research the holistic healthcare practitioner's background to make sure you are going with a provider who is experienced and extremely skilled at what they do. If you come across a practitioner who is not willing to coordinate therapy with your doctor then look elsewhere. Never go with a person who claims to be a professional because a professional would not refuse to work with your physician. Always make sure you are aware of the total cost of the treatment and make sure that there are no hidden costs associated with the holistic treatment. As well check to make sure your health insurance will cover the cost of the treatment before you proceed with the holistic therapy.
