5 Things You Must Know About Parenting

If you would have to ask every parent, to put a list of the five attributes that make a parent a good parent. You would find that each list of items would be different from parent to parent and that no two lists would match one hundred percent. This is because a parent has their own definition of what defines being a proper parent and something they tend to live by accordingly. However, each plan should be open to impression, as well as be able to fit the needs of each individual child.

1. Be adaptable as a parent - Each parent should be open to applying different parental tactics when having to deal with different situations. Parenting techniques do have to change as your child gets older. Don't overuse specific tactics with your child that could end up losing impact. Keep a reserve of multiple tactics always available when you need them.

2. Parents can allow kids to make decisions sometimes - Each parent may not openly admit this, but they do tend to let their youngsters make the decisions sometimes. This is perfectly okay in some cases such as letting them pick out what they care to eat for lunch or dinner. Kids can be allowed to make some simple decisions on their own if you let them. These can include asking them if they want to get dressed on their own or tie their own shoes. Parents are the main decision makers, true, but kids can make simple decisions for the day too.

3. Parents need to show their parental power to their kids - Children have an ability to want to test the limits of themselves and parents. Therefore, due to this, parents need to show their parental power to their kids. They must believe in that parental power for it to work. If you as a parent make a threat or statement of authority to them, and do not go through with it, it will weaken your parental power in your boy or girl's eyes. Be assertive, authoritative, and deliverable. Show them you mean business!

4. Allow your kids to think for themselves - A big challenge as a parent is when you allow your kids to think for themselves. This is a big part of learning on how to make the correct decisions and handle problem solving. Children need to learn to make choices and mistakes on their own. It is only through mistakes that we grow as people.

5. Be a parent that is not just a disciplinarian - One of the biggest roles a parent has is being a stern disciplinarian. However, if you are more than just a disciplinarian to your child, you will probably come away with better results. A loving parent is one who knows how to be silly and affectionate too. Come down to your child's level and have fun with them. Involve yourself in their play time. Kids will then view you as someone they will gladly take on actions for so that they can, please.
