5 Things You Must Know About Repetitive Strain Injury (RSI)

The term RSI is defined as cumulative trauma disorder in medical terminology, which results from the extended recurring, uncomfortable and dynamic movements of your hands. These types of hand movements can cause harm to your neck, shoulder, hand, forearm muscles and nerves that can result in the form of numbness, weakness and pain.

However, it is astonishing to know that apparently harmless activities like typing or just clicking a mouse button can cause harm. Just imagine, how much repetitive task your delicate fingers do while typing hundreds and millions of times in a month or a year, that results in the shape of microscopic tears, that means sprain of the muscles and nerves of your wrists, fingers and forearms etc. Actually, the sprain muscles get contracted and cannot move as freely as healthy muscles can do thus causing pain to your finger, wrists and forearm, shoulders etc. Due to lack of rest given to the muscles of your fingers, the covering of your finger tendons gets short of lubrication, which results in the shape of severe pain. Further, the inflamed tendons start biting the surrounding muscles and nerves. This condition can cause deadness, itching or sensitivity to touch. This cycle repeats itself over and over again thus giving way to chronic pain.

Not only Repetitive strain injury (RSI) can be harmful for only your hand, forearm, shoulder or wrists but bad posture and also leads you towards rigorous back and neck pains. Continuously gazing at the computer screen for a long duration can cause eye-sore and similarly continuously holding and releasing mouse can also cause neck and arm sprain and may cause unevenness to your spine.

In light of the above discussion, you should be very cautious, in case you feel smoldering of elbow, hand, wrists, shoulders or forearm. Keep an eye in the rigidness of your neck and what about your back, do you feel stiffness in your back?

You may be a victim of soft tissue trauma, if you often feel pain in your joints. That may be the result of repetitive strain injury and in order to stop further damage to your joints and muscles, there are given hereunder five useful things that you must be aware of.

1. Take notice of your activities that you perform on a regular basis, they may be relative to your homework, office work or hobbies that you perform regularly.

2. Check, in spite of taking treatment that gives you relief from the pains you feel consistently, whether the pain reoccurs after some day.

3. Is there pain in the same areas, such as hand, wrist, forearm, shoulders, neck etc. muscles and nerves or joints?

4. What type of pain, you feel, blazing pain, soreness pain, after which you feel uncomfortable and compel leaving your work.

5. You go under many treatments such as massage or exercising of different nature, but still you feel pain in the same areas just after getting relief for a temporary period.

In case, your answer is in affirmative, that obviously means that your tendons and muscles are getting injured due to some kind of repetitive work and that you may need to see your physician who may treat you with medicine, inoculation or maybe he suggests you going under surgery as per the condition of your pain.
