5 Things You Must Know About Snoring

1. There are many ways to help prevent snoring without medication, without special tools, and without even visiting a doctor. In order to really get to grips with snoring, it is important to tackle the root problem. There are many possible causes for a snoring problem, but reducing or removing these possible factors is the most productive way to get started in tackling the problem. Drinking alcohol, particularly in the evenings, can contribute towards snoring patterns. Cutting down or stopping evening drinking will drastically improve your likelihood of a snore free night of sleep. Being obese or overweight is a large contributor to snoring problems. As well as the significant health issues they cause on their own, a side effect will be that you have excess skin to result in worse snoring. Smoking is another factor - cutting down or quitting smoking cigarettes will improve your night's sleep to no end. Getting used to sleeping on your front, or side, as opposed to your back, might possibly rid you of your snoring problem without even having to make drastic lifestyle changes.

2. Some people are simply more prone to snoring than others. Men are at a significantly higher risk, as a result of them having a larger neck size than most women. Women snorers who are at a higher risk tend to be shorter and broader, and also average at a higher weight than those that don't snore. As one gets older, there is a higher chance of being a snorer. According to the British Medical Journal, 40% of the middle-aged snore, whilst only 30% of those over age 30 snore. As children, only 5.6% snore, according to Pediatrics Journal. Women who snore are likely to have a higher risk of hypertension and heart disease.

3. can be an incredibly loud sound. Over 80 percent of snorers are able to exceed or reach 37 decibels of sound, equivalent to the sound of road traffic! Women are quieter snorers than women. Some snoring is even able to reach 69 decibels, in the same realm of the 70-90 decibels produced by a pneumatic drill!

4. The sound of snoring is created by the soft palate vibrating. The soft palate is the sections of muscle on the roof of the mouth. If the nose is blocked, or air flow through the nose is in some way impeded, more air flows through the mouth. It is this movement of air that causes the vibration and noise of snoring.

5. There are many snoring solutions, ranging from tablets to physical devices available. There are machines that provide a continuous source of pressurised air, keeping your airway unblocked. Also available are oral devices that help position your mouth, holding your tongue or lower jaw down. Surgery is also an option, whereby an operation will manually increase airway size by taking away skin tissue. Nasal dilators can be purchased. These hold the nose open, allowing the air to flow freely, and bypass the mouth passageway. Throat sprays are available that spray the tongue, uvula and back of the throat attempting to create a numbness and inability.
